MOQ for Custom Makeup Pouches: The Complete Buyer's Guide

Custom makeup pouch MOQ starts at 500 pcs, but 300–499 trial orders can be possible. Learn how material, color, logo and molds affect MOQ.

Sourcing Guide September 18, 2026 10 min read

"What is your MOQ?" is one of the first questions on almost every custom makeup pouch inquiry. It is also one of the most commonly misunderstood.

Some buyers read MOQ as an arbitrary number factories use to turn away small orders. It is not that. MOQ is the point at which a specific pouch specification can be produced reliably without setup, material waste, sampling, cutting, decoration and quality-control costs becoming uneconomical.

At Jinchen Supply Chain — backed by King Fly, Est. 1997 — our standard MOQ for custom makeup pouches is 500 pieces. Trial orders of 300–499 pieces can be reviewed when the design uses available materials and a workable production setup. Below that, projects are assessed case by case.

But here is the important detail: 500 pieces is not an automatic promise that every material, color, zipper, mold or packaging option can be fully custom-developed. MOQ is always attached to the complete specification.

1. The Short Answer: MOQ Is Specification-Based

A useful way to think about MOQ is not "which quantity tier am I in?" but "what is required to make my exact pouch?"

Quantity bandWhat it usually supportsWhat still needs confirmation
500+ pieces — standard custom MOQThe normal starting point for custom-logo and private-label makeup pouches. More material, color, craft and structure options become available.Whether the specified material is in stock, whether the color is custom-dyed, whether new tooling or hardware is needed, and whether certification or custom packaging adds a separate minimum.
300–499 pieces — trial order rangeOften workable for market-available material, stock colors, existing patterns or molds, and lower-setup logo methods such as screen print, heat transfer or woven labels.A one-time setup fee may apply. New molds, custom hardware, special materials and complex embroidery are less likely to be practical.
Below 300 pieces — case by caseMost suitable for ready styles, available material and simple branding. Some projects can still be produced, but they are not standard full-custom production.Unit price, sampling, setup and freight must be checked carefully. The project may be more economical after adjusting the material, craft or quantity.

A 500-piece order can still use open-market or stock material. In fact, that is often a smart choice: it helps control cost, shortens lead time and reduces color and texture risk for a first campaign.

Conversely, a 300-piece project is not automatically impossible. If the factory or material supplier already holds the required fabric, the style uses an existing mold, and the logo can be applied without major line setup, a smaller trial order may be workable with a setup fee.

The quantity matters, but it does not make the decision by itself.

2. Two Different MOQs Buyers Often Mix Together

When discussing a custom makeup pouch, there are really two MOQ conversations.

2.1 The factory's production MOQ

This is the buyer-facing minimum for placing a production order. For most Jinchen custom pouch programs, the standard starting point is 500 pieces.

This MOQ covers the practical work required to turn a design into a production run: planning the bill of materials, checking stock, preparing the pattern, setting up the production line, cutting, printing or embroidering, sewing, inspecting, packing and shipping.

2.2 Upstream material and component minimums

Behind the factory are material mills, dyeing houses, zipper suppliers, hardware makers, packaging printers, welding or molding workshops, and testing/certification processes. Some of these suppliers have their own batch or tooling minimums.

For example:

  • A stock fabric already available in the market may be easy to use for a smaller order.
  • A custom Pantone-dyed fabric may require a dyeing lot.
  • A custom zipper pull or metal nameplate may require a mold.
  • A certified material lot may need traceable documentation.
  • A new welded or structured shape may require a new mold or pattern setup.
  • A custom gift box, dust bag or printed insert may have its own printing minimum.

However, the factory does not simply copy the highest supplier minimum onto every quotation. We check whether the material is already in stock, whether a supplier has an open lot, whether a small lot can be purchased with a surcharge, whether an existing mold can be used, and whether several variants can share the same material and production setup.

That is why there is no fixed rule such as "one material always has a 500-piece MOQ and another always has a 1,000-piece MOQ." Different materials and finishes have different upstream requirements, but the final MOQ depends on availability, color, craft, hardware, packaging and production timing.

3. What Actually Moves the MOQ Up or Down

The table below shows the variables we review before confirming a feasible MOQ.

4. The Same Quantity Can Produce Different MOQ Answers

The best way to understand MOQ is to compare real sourcing scenarios.

BriefWhy the feasible route may differ
500 pieces, stock beige nylon, existing rounded pouch shape, screen-printed logoThis fits the standard custom-pouch model well. The material and shape are proven, and the main customization is the logo.
500 pieces, custom Pantone velvet, embroidered pattern, custom gold zipper pull and rigid gift boxFive hundred pieces is still the standard order starting point, but the custom fabric color, hardware and packaging may each carry separate minimums or setup fees. The project may need a higher quantity, a small-lot fee, stock alternatives or phased development.
300 pieces, existing clear TPU travel bag, stock blue trim, heat-transfer logoThis may be workable as a trial order because the material, shape and production process already exist. A setup fee would be quoted before production.
300 pieces, custom-developed metallic quilted fabric and a new molded shapeThe order quantity is small but the development scope is high. It may require a higher MOQ, a tooling fee, a simplified shape or a first run using available material.
1,000 pieces split across four materials and six Pantone colorsThis is not necessarily one 1,000-piece production run. If each variant changes material, color or setup, each variant must be assessed separately.
1,000 pieces with two logo artworks on the same stock material and same pouch shapeThis can be more efficient because the variants share the same material, cutting, sewing setup and hardware.

These examples show why a simple quantity table cannot answer every MOQ question.

5. How to Get a Branded Pouch at a Lower Order Quantity

A smaller first campaign does not have to look generic. The key is to spend customization where it creates the strongest brand impact while keeping the production setup stable.

  1. Start with an available material. Choose a fabric or clear film already available in a suitable color, texture and finish. This is the single most effective way to improve feasibility.
  2. Use a proven silhouette. An existing pouch pattern or mold reduces pattern risk, sampling time and tooling cost.
  3. Customize the logo first. A well-designed screen print, heat transfer, woven label, zipper pull or hang tag can make a stock-based pouch feel branded without changing the entire supply chain.
  4. Consolidate variants. If you need several designs, keep them on the same material, pouch shape, zipper and craft so the variants share one production setup.
  5. Use color strategically. A stock body color with a branded trim, lining, zipper tape or logo color can create a distinctive look without custom dyeing.
  6. Build a GWP kit. Adding stock mirrors, combs, gua sha tools, travel bottles or brushes can increase perceived value. The pouch remains the branded hero, while accessories are sourced and assembled into a retail-ready kit.
  7. Pilot, then reorder. A first run can use available materials and existing tooling. Once the design sells through, the reorder can introduce custom material, hardware or packaging with more volume and lower risk.

This approach is especially useful for beauty GWP campaigns, counter gifts, private-label launches, travel amenity sets and seasonal promotions.

6. Sampling, Setup Fees and Lead Times

Before bulk production, we recommend sampling so the material, color, logo, dimensions and structure can be checked physically.

  • Sampling time: 3–7 days as standard; projects using stock materials and existing molds can sometimes move faster.
  • Samples with existing molds: free with existing molds; the buyer covers freight.
  • Custom tooling: new molds, custom hardware or special fixtures are quoted separately. Any refund terms, including refunds tied to an agreed MOQ, should be confirmed in writing before tooling begins.
  • Trial orders from 300–499 pieces: a setup fee may apply depending on line changeover, logo preparation and material handling.
  • Standard lead time: 25–35 days after sample and order details are confirmed.
  • Rush production: 10–20 days may be possible when materials and components are in stock.
  • Capacity: 200,000+ pieces per month across our managed production network.

Our China, Vietnam and Thailand network supports production flexibility and supply-chain resilience. The best origin is matched to the product, certification needs, capacity and delivery schedule.

FAQ

What is the standard MOQ for custom makeup pouches?

Our standard MOQ is 500 pieces for most custom makeup pouch and private-label programs. This supports custom branding and a broader range of material, color and construction options, but the exact feasibility still depends on the specification.

Can I order custom makeup pouches below 500 pieces?

Trial orders of 300–499 pieces can be reviewed, especially when using available materials, stock colors, existing shapes and lower-setup logo methods. Orders below 300 pieces are assessed case by case and are usually more practical with ready styles and simple branding.

Does MOQ depend only on the material?

No. Material is an important factor, but MOQ also depends on color, material availability, structure, molds, logo method, hardware, SKU mix, packaging, certification and production schedule. Two projects using the same named material can have different feasible MOQs.

Why would a 500-piece order still use stock or open-market material?

Because stock material can improve cost, lead time and consistency. A 500-piece order is a standard custom-program starting point, not an automatic instruction to develop every material from scratch. Custom logos, trims, packaging and kit assembly can still make the final product strongly branded.

Can I get a fully custom material at a low MOQ?

Sometimes, if the material is already in stock, available through a supplier's open lot, or can be purchased with a small-lot surcharge. If the material needs custom dyeing, weaving, coating or certified production, the MOQ may be higher. We will offer alternatives rather than promising a minimum that cannot be produced reliably.

Can I mix colors or designs in one order?

Yes, when the variants share the same material, shape, hardware and production craft. If variants change material, structure, hardware or packaging, they may need to be counted as separate production runs.

What is the MOQ-friendly way to add branding?

Screen print, heat transfer, woven labels, zipper-tape logos and existing-shape constructions are usually easier for smaller orders. 3D embroidery, hot foil, debossing, raised TPU logos, custom hardware and new molds require more setup and should be checked early.

What should I send to get the fastest MOQ answer?

Send the quantity, target material, Pantone colors, dimensions, logo file, reference photos, preferred pouch structure, packaging needs, destination market and delivery date. The more complete the brief, the faster the MOQ and sampling route can be confirmed.

Planning your first custom makeup pouch program?
